School Admission Marketing Calendar for Assam: CBSE, ICSE and ASSEB Schools

Section 1 of 6

School admissions in Assam follow a yearly rhythm shaped by board exams, results and each school’s academic session, and the right time to prepare your marketing is months before admission forms open. This month-by-month calendar shows what CBSE, ICSE and Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB) schools should do and when: fixing Google listings and website pages in the quieter months, running awareness and open-day campaigns before forms open, handling enquiries during the exam and results season, and supporting mid-session admissions for families who move during the year. Dates are based on official 2026 notices; check your board’s current schedule.

First, know your board’s calendar

Your admission marketing should start from the official dates that affect your families. These are the key reference points from the 2026 cycle.

ASSEB (formerly SEBA and AHSEC). The Assam State School Education Board came into existence on 13 September 2024, merging the boards that ran Class 10 and Class 12 examinations (Sentinel Assam). In 2026, HSLC results were declared on 10 April, and Class 11 (HS first year) admissions opened on the DARPAN portal on 12 April, with applications accepted until 22 April and the provisional selection list published on 25 April (Sentinel Assam on DARPAN admissions).

CBSE. From 2026, CBSE Class 10 students sit board exams in two phases. The 2026 tentative schedule placed the mandatory first phase from 17 February to 9 March and the optional second phase from 15 May to 1 June (Careers360). CBSE also requires affiliated schools to keep a mandatory public disclosure on their websites, and set a compliance deadline of 15 February 2026 (CareerIndia).

ICSE and ISC. Check the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations’ current schedule for exam and result dates.

RTE admissions. Private unaided schools reserve entry-level seats under Section 12(1)(c) of the Right to Education Act, filled through the state’s online admission process. Check the official Assam RTE portal for the current year’s dates.

Your school’s own session. Admission timing also depends on when your academic session starts and when you release forms. Put your real dates into the calendar below.

The month-by-month calendar

August–October: fix the foundations

The quietest months are the ideal time to prepare.

  • Google Business Profile: check your school’s name, category, address pin, admission office hours and photos. Ask current parents for honest reviews at events such as parent–teacher meetings.
  • Website: update the admissions page, fee structure, transport routes and, for CBSE schools, the mandatory public disclosure page. Make sure every page works on a phone.
  • Consent records: organise written parental consent for any student photos and videos you plan to use. Under India’s data protection law, a child’s personal data needs verifiable consent from a parent.
  • Content bank: photograph and film classrooms, labs, sports, cultural events and teachers at work while school life is in full swing.

November–December: build awareness

  • Tell your story: share regular posts and short videos about everyday school life, achievements and teachers.
  • Plan open days and campus tours for the months before forms open, and create a simple registration page.
  • Prepare admission FAQs covering classes with seats, eligibility, documents, fees, transport and the application process.
  • Train the admission desk on replying to phone calls and WhatsApp messages quickly and consistently.

January: open days and form release

  • Promote open days to families in the neighbourhoods your school buses serve, using location-targeted Facebook and Instagram ads and WhatsApp reminders for registered parents.
  • Announce form release clearly on your website, Google Business Profile posts and social media, with real dates.
  • Start search campaigns for class-specific searches such as “nursery admission near me” or “CBSE school in Tezpur”, limited to the areas you serve.
  • Magh Bihu falls in mid-January; keep festive posts respectful and separate from admission ads.

February–March: exam season sensitivity

Board exams dominate many families’ attention in these months, based on the CBSE 2026 pattern.

  • Speak to the right parents. Admission ads for nursery, primary and middle school classes are still appropriate. Avoid pressure-based messaging aimed at families of students sitting board exams.
  • No false urgency. Don’t claim “last few seats” unless your admission records show it. ASCI’s education guidelines treat false urgency as misleading (ASCI guidelines, PDF).
  • Keep responding. Enquiries continue, so make sure the admission desk replies within a day.

April: results and senior secondary admissions

  • For schools offering Class 11, align campaigns with result dates and admission windows. In 2026, ASSEB HSLC results and DARPAN applications both fell in April, and the window was short, so information must be ready in advance.
  • Publish stream and subject details such as science, commerce and arts combinations, eligibility and seat availability.
  • Share results responsibly. Publish board results with the year and the number of students they refer to, and name individual students only with written parental consent.

May–June: second-phase exams, transfers and new arrivals

  • CBSE’s optional second phase for Class 10 fell in May–June in the 2026 schedule. Families of those students may still be deciding on Class 11 options.
  • Transfer admissions: many families move in the summer. Run small search campaigns for transfer searches and keep your mid-session admission page up to date.
  • Welcome new families with orientation information and a first-week guide, which also cuts down repeated phone queries.

July: review and reset

  • Review the season: compare enquiries, open-day registrations and admissions by class and by channel against the previous year.
  • Collect feedback from new parents about how they found you and what helped them decide.
  • Plan next year’s calendar using what worked.

Towns with mid-year arrivals

Some towns see a steady flow of families arriving during the year, and schools there benefit from an always-on presence rather than one admission season. Tezpur, for example, has the headquarters of the Army’s IV Corps and an Indian Air Force station, so families of personnel posted there often need a school outside the main admission window (IV Corps). Guwahati sees similar movement from central and state government transfers and relocating professionals.

Quick annual checklist

  • Board exam, result and admission dates added from official notices
  • Google Business Profile complete and reviewed before admissions
  • Admission, fee, transport and (for CBSE schools) disclosure pages updated
  • Parental consent organised for student photos and videos
  • Open days planned, with a registration page and reminders
  • Class-specific search campaigns limited to your catchment area
  • No false urgency or guaranteed results in any ad
  • Admission desk ready for calls and WhatsApp messages
  • Mid-session and transfer admissions supported year-round
  • Season reviewed and next year planned

Frequently asked questions

When should schools in Assam start admission marketing?

Start preparing several months before admission forms open. Use the quieter months to fix your Google Business Profile, website admission and fee pages, and consent records, then build awareness and promote open days in the months before forms are released, so your school is visible when families begin comparing options.

What is the DARPAN portal in Assam?

DARPAN is the online portal used for Higher Secondary first-year (Class 11) admissions to institutions affiliated with the Assam State School Education Board. In 2026, applications opened on 12 April and closed on 22 April, with a provisional selection list published on 25 April.

When are CBSE Class 10 board exams held under the new two-exam system?

From 2026, CBSE holds Class 10 board exams in two phases. The 2026 schedule placed the mandatory first phase in February–March and the optional second phase in May–June. Schools should check CBSE's official date sheet for the current year.

Can schools use student photos in admission ads?

Only with consent. Under India's data protection law, processing a child's personal data, including photos and names, requires verifiable parental consent. Schools should keep written consent records and use images without identifiable children where consent isn't available.

What must CBSE schools publish on their websites?

CBSE's affiliation bye-laws require a mandatory public disclosure on the school website, covering details such as affiliation status, fee structure, infrastructure, staff qualifications, the academic calendar and results. CBSE set a compliance deadline of 15 February 2026 and warned of action for non-compliance.
